The collection originally designed by Tapiovaara in 1955 now incorporates LED technology, capable of blending functionality and intimacy at the same time, and it has been re-edited in two sizes, with fifteen- or thirty-centimetre diameter discs. With both models, an inner white glass diffuser helps to filter the light.
The Maija collection is an expression of the feeling of light that is common in the cities of the Baltic: outwards. Tapiovaara conceived a column of small metal superimposed discs from which the light hangs out from a shimmering panel, shrouded in life. The tripod on which the structure rests and the recesses that allow the light to disperse upwards are particularly striking. The discs were originally in a light nude rose colour, subsequently white was produced and nowadays Santa & Cole offers both alternatives.
