The DB01 cabinet was produced in the mid-1950s by Pastoe and was an immediate success. The new bending technique for shaping the legs and drawers was a technological breakthrough. The new birch collection was inspired by the Scandinavian modern interior movement. Braakman used his international connections to make the major shift in the Pastoe portfolio, in line with a new optimistic post-war period.
